FUTURE EVENT

Plan your stay in TRAPANI

Before continuing, if you are planning a visit to TRAPANI, here you can find some useful resources to choose where to stay, where to eat and what to do nearby.

From 4 to 6 September 2026, one of the most eagerly awaited sporting events in the province of Trapani returns: the 68th Monte Erice Hill Climb. The historic motor race will once again bring drivers and enthusiasts to the route climbing from Valderice towards Erice, turning the Trapani area into a major destination for motorsport fans for an entire weekend.

The event will also directly involve Trapani, where the preliminary scrutineering and administrative checks are scheduled for Friday 4 September. For visitors staying in the city, the race can therefore be an opportunity to plan a weekend combining motorsport, the historic centre and excursions in the surrounding area. On our website you can browse a selection of B&Bs in Trapani to organise your stay.

Monte Erice Hill Climb 2026 dates

The 68th edition of the Monte Erice Hill Climb will take place over three days, from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 September 2026. The programme includes an opening day dedicated to preliminary checks, followed by official practice sessions on Saturday and the race itself on Sunday.

Friday 4 September will be dedicated to the administrative and technical checks for cars and drivers in Trapani. The main operations will take place in the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele area, giving spectators the opportunity to see the racing cars up close before they tackle the course.

Saturday 5 September will be dedicated to official practice sessions along the hill climb course, starting in the Valderice area and climbing towards Erice. These sessions will allow drivers to familiarise themselves with the road and fine-tune their cars ahead of the competition.

Sunday 6 September will be race day, with competitors tackling the climb towards Erice and the final standings determined by the times recorded along the course.

The route from Valderice to Erice

The Monte Erice Hill Climb is one of Sicily´s best-known motor races, and much of its appeal comes from its course. The competition takes place along the SP 31 Immacolatella-Erice provincial road, which climbs from the Valderice area towards Erice through a succession of bends and hairpins that test the drivers´ technique, precision and skill.

The route also offers impressive views of the surrounding landscape. This setting helps make the Monte Erice not only a sporting event but also an event capable of attracting spectators from across Sicily and motorsport enthusiasts from other parts of Italy and abroad.

Modern and historic cars at Monte Erice

The 2026 edition will once again feature several categories of racing cars. The event is included in the ACI Sport calendars and features competitions for both modern cars and historic cars. Alongside the 68th Monte Erice Hill Climb, the 11th Historic Monte Erice Hill Climb will also take place.

The presence of historic cars is one of the most attractive features for spectators, with racing models from different eras returning to compete on one of the most traditional routes in Sicilian motorsport alongside the latest generation of competition cars.

Monte Erice: an event for tourists too

The hill climb takes place during one of the best periods for visiting the province of Trapani. At the beginning of September, the destinations of western Sicily are still enjoying the summer season, while generally being less crowded than during the busiest weeks of August.

Visitors attending the race can combine the event with a trip to the medieval town of Erice, Trapani´s historic centre and the nearby coastal destinations. To plan the rest of your stay, you can consult our guide to things to do in Trapani, with ideas and itineraries covering the main attractions in the area.

Where to eat during the race weekend

Visitors staying in Trapani during the Monte Erice weekend can also take the opportunity to discover the local cuisine. Fish couscous, busiate pasta, tuna products and traditional Sicilian specialities are among the most characteristic dishes of the area. In our section dedicated to restaurants in Trapani, you can find useful places and addresses for organising lunch or dinner during your stay.

How to follow the Monte Erice Hill Climb 2026

The event can be followed from the authorised spectator areas along the course and, according to the organisers, the competition will also be available via live streaming. During the race weekend, traffic restrictions and road closures will be introduced along the roads involved in the course, so anyone planning to travel to Valderice or Erice should take the temporary traffic arrangements into account.

At the time of publication, the official starting times for practice sessions and the race have not yet been released in detail. The final timetable, including road closures and information for spectators, will be announced by the organisers closer to the event.

Monte Erice 2026: a motorsport weekend in the province of Trapani

With almost seventy years of history, the Monte Erice Hill Climb continues to be one of the most important motorsport events in western Sicily. From 4 to 6 September 2026, Trapani, Valderice and Erice will once again come together for a weekend dedicated to racing, with modern and historic cars, Italian and international drivers and crowds of enthusiasts ready to follow the climb along one of Sicily´s most famous motorsport routes.
