Archived the Christmas holidays, now the attention of the little ones but also of the adults is for the carnival with its parties, the parades of allegorical floats and above all the jokes that distinguish the funniest period of the year.
Each locality has been cultivating a carnival tradition for years and one of these has been carrying on one of the most heartfelt events in the month of February for thirty years: we are talking about the Valderice carnival which will begin on Shrove Thursday, 16 February, and end on Saturday 25 February, day traditionally called carnival.
Also this year the program is rich, made up not only of the traditional parade of allegorical floats but also of tastings of typical products which are also the protagonists of the craziest six days of the year; in fact, there will be a significant influx of tourists from all over Sicily and this is why it is important to make known the delicacies that the Agroericino area is able to offer.
One of these is definitely the pork couscous.
As we said, the carnival of Valderice this year celebrates thirty years of life, because it was back in 1992 when a group of citizens conceived an event that would attract as many visitors to Valderice as there were those of the most noble carnival events in Italy, above all Viareggio and Sciacca.
With the first editions that were quite successful, then these citizens decided to form a committee to give some continuity to the event in the coming years. And so it was. Since then, every year the local craftsmen set to work to create the allegorical floats built in papier-mâché and polystyrene with a lot of imagination.
The program includes 6 days of authentic fun and the procession of allegorical floats will start on Thursday 16 February from Piazza Pertini and will wind its way through the main streets of the town with songs and dances, which will make you forget, at least for a while, the sadness certainly not good these days.
