With the beginning of Holy Lent, which is a time of penitence for the whole Church, the "Scinnute" begins, which are preparatory rites, leading to the procession of the Good Friday Mysteries, in which all the citizens of Trapani meet in prayer.
The Scinnute have a fairly ancient tradition and date back to the seventeenth century when the Sacred Groups of the Mysteries were literally descended, hence the dialect word "scinnuta", from the niche in which all the year they were deposited in the ancient church of San Michele Arcangelo, located in the historic center of Trapani and placed at the center of the altar for the adoration of the faithful for each Friday of Lent.
Destroyed the church from the bombings of the second world war, the Mysteries had to find a new arrangement, until in 1961 they were not placed in the Holy Souls Church of the Purgatory, which still today welcomes them.
The ritual of the scinnuti has undergone various changes over the centuries, today the group is simply placed at the center of the altar for adoration, during which there is the musical performance of the band outside the church, while at 19 , 00 there will always be the Eucharistic celebration presided over by the Bishop of Trapani.
