On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 March, the FAI Spring Days return to Trapani, the national event dedicated to discovering Italy’s cultural heritage. For the occasion, the FAI delegation of Trapani is offering the itinerary “In the footsteps of water – Trapani fountains and water sources”, a route that tells the story of the city through some of its most iconic fountains.
The tour starts at the Triton Fountain in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks, and continues through the historic centre to Piazza Mercato del Pesce, Piazza Sant’Agostino with the Fountain of Saturn, and Piazza Lucatelli with the Seahorse Fountain.
Through these monuments visitors can retrace the history of Trapani’s water system, which dates back to the 14th century when the Chiaramonte family built the first aqueduct bringing water from the springs of Mount Erice to the city. The route also highlights the evolution of artistic styles, from the Baroque character of the Fountain of Saturn to the Rococo elegance of the Seahorse Fountain, the Neoclassical style of the fountain in Piazza Mercato del Pesce, and the powerful twentieth-century forms of the Triton Fountain.
Alongside the historical itinerary, visitors can also join “Murales Hunters: from San Giuliano to the legendary puppeteer”, a special tour dedicated to the city’s street art. This experience, available by reservation, includes a guided route through the main murals of the municipal area using an ATM bus.
During the event, FAI information points will be located in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, Piazza Saturno, Piazza Lucatelli and Piazza Ex Mercato del Pesce.
The FAI Spring Days are also a fundraising event. Visitors are invited to make a donation to support the activities of the foundation. In case of high attendance, entry may not be guaranteed. FAI members, or those who join on site, have priority access.
