The city of Trapani is preparing for a special event that combines sport, remembrance, and tourism. On 22 and 23 November, the 8th edition of the “Giangiacomo Ciaccio Montalto Offshore Regatta” will take place, organized by the Italian Naval League – Trapani Section, in collaboration with the National Association of Magistrates – Trapani Section and with the patronage of the Municipality of Trapani. The regatta is dedicated to the memory of magistrate Giangiacomo Ciaccio Montalto, assassinated on 25 January 1983, a symbol of courage, justice, and civic commitment. The event celebrates not only his contribution to the fight against organised crime but also his deep passion for the sea.
As in previous editions, magistrates will sail aboard “Vega – Ciaccio Montalto”, a vessel once used by human traffickers and later confiscated and restored by the Naval League of Trapani. A second boat will be crewed by an all-female team composed of officers from the Guardia di Finanza, Carabinieri, State Police, and Coast Guard, while a third vessel will be entrusted to young Laser-class sailors from Trapani, Favignana and Pantelleria. More than twenty boats from various Sicilian sailing clubs will compete for the challenge trophy currently held by the “Elima” crew (Sugamele/Cappello), winners of the 2024 edition.
