On Sunday, October 12th at 10:00 a.m., the “Agostino Pepoli” Museum in Trapani will host the public presentation of the restored Madonna of the Rosary with Saints Dominic and Catherine of Siena, considered the masterpiece of the Trapani painter Andrea Carrera. The event, organized for the 22nd National FIDAM Day on the theme “Art and Peace,” represents a major cultural moment for the city and its artistic heritage. The restoration, carried out by La Partenope Restauri led by Elena Vetere under the supervision of the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage of Trapani, was made possible thanks to the support of the Friends of the Pepoli Museum Association. The monumental altarpiece originally came from the Church of Sant’Andrea, which was destroyed during the war, and after passing through the Fardelliana Art Gallery, it finally found its home at the Pepoli Museum. There it remained on display until 1986, when it was placed in storage. Today it once again shines in the 17th-century gallery, alongside other important works by the same artist and paintings by the Flemish painter Gerardi, offering visitors an evocative exhibition path. Carrera depicts the Virgin and Child offering the rosary crown to the Dominican saints, surrounded by angels and a cloud-filled baroque setting, with vivid colors, refined tonal effects, and brilliant light contrasts that still move viewers today. Attending the presentation is also the perfect opportunity to explore the beauty of Trapani, a city rich in history, churches, and charming streets. Visitors planning a stay will easily find many options to Sleep in Trapani, while food lovers can enjoy traditional Sicilian cuisine by choosing from the many places to Eat in Trapani. This event combines art, historical memory, and cultural tourism, returning to the community and visitors a true treasure of 17th-century Sicilian painting.
