From July 14 to 19, San Vito Lo Capo will host the 17th edition of the Sicilambiente Film Festival, an international showcase of documentaries, short films, animations, and features centered on environmental issues and human rights.
Founded in 2009 with the support of the local municipality, the festival has become a key cultural event, merging civic engagement with cinematic expression. Its mission remains true to its origins: to promote cultural and social development through audiovisual storytelling, with a strong focus on sustainability and social justice.
At a time when environmental protection is increasingly part of the global conversation, the festival aims not just to raise awareness but also to encourage concrete action. All prizes are funded by Arpa Sicilia, rather than corporate sponsors, underscoring the event’s commitment to integrity and consistency with its values. Rather than seeking sponsors in the traditional sense, the organizers are looking for partners to develop shared projects on environmental conservation, health, human rights, and poverty reduction.
The artistic program is divided into various competitive sections: the award for Best Human Rights Documentary is presented in collaboration with Amnesty International Italy, while Greenpeace Italy grants the prize for Best Environmental Documentary.
In addition to the film screenings, the festival includes a literary section featuring book presentations on key topics covered by the event. These take place in the late afternoon, often accompanied by organic, locally sourced aperitifs enjoyed at sunset—a perfect blend of culture and conviviality.
The festival also offers a wide range of side activities, including excursions, workshops for children and teens, and photography exhibitions, creating an immersive experience that goes well beyond the screen.
