The tourist season is about to begin in San Vito Lo Capo and, as per tradition, the event that inaugurates the great events of the seaside village will be, as always, the Kite Festival, this year in its fifteenth edition.
The festival, organized by Ignazio Billera with the patronage of the municipal administration, is an outdoor event much loved by adults and children characterized by the historic slogan "emotions with your nose up".
And it is a real emotion to see the kites circling in the air. A timeless emotion that every year attracts thousands of visitors to San Vito Lo Capo to admire the wind artists raising kites of various shapes and colors in a gathering with an international perspective. In fact, the kite flyers come from all over the world and perform on the beach, in the specially set up flight field.
After the inauguration ceremony, scheduled for Wednesday, May 21, the festival will begin on Thursday, May 22 with the first day of performances dedicated to primary school children who will have a wonderful experience of seeing kites flying over the beach with the sea and the coast as a backdrop under the shadow of Monte Monaco.
Children will also be involved in the so-called wind fair, with kite-making workshops. For older children there will be tastings and shows of all kinds until late in the evening. There are also many collateral events to the festival, such as the commemoration of the 33rd anniversary of the Capaci massacre with a solemn ceremony: the flying of kites and the reading of passages from Giovanni Falcone on Friday, May 23 at 5:58 p.m., the exact time the mafia massacre occurred.
On Saturday 24th May, the appointment will be with culture thanks to the VIII Poetic Raduno “Isola di Favignana” curated by the Ophea association: a poetry recital and a ceremony for the delivery of a literary prize to Prof. Francesco Torre.
