2022 SCINNUTE CALENDAR IN TRAPANI

The calendar of Scinnute 2022 was presented last Friday with the presence of the mayor of Trapani and the leaders of the Union of Maestranze, which should be the prelude, Covid restrictions permitting, of the procession of the Mysteries on Good Friday.

It is now two years that the Sacred Groups of the Mysteries have not left the church of Purgatory due to the pandemic and it is therefore natural that in the city the official news of the go-ahead for all the processions, including that of the Mysteries, which gives over four hundred years takes place in our city and that only the two world wars in more recent times had managed to suspend.

For the moment let´s enjoy the sacred rite of the Scinnute, as old as the procession itself, but which over the centuries has totally changed, as in the most ancient meaning, the term Scinnuta meant the descent that the Sacred Groups made from their present niches. in the ancient church of San Michele, which no longer exists, to be placed at the center of the altar for the adoration of the faithful every Friday of Lent.

Due to the pandemic, the rite was even more reshaped to avoid gatherings, but now that the situation seems to have improved, it returns to how we had known it, that is, with the musical accompaniment of the band outside the church.

It starts on Friday 4 March and so every Friday until 8 April when the Virgin of Sorrows will close the exhibition.

At the end of the musical performance, there will be a moment of prayer with limited admissions to the church.

In addition to the Scinnute dei Misteri there are also those of the Mother Pietà dei Massari and the Mother Pietà del Popolo which will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays of the last week of Lent.
