FUTURE EVENT

Plan your stay in FAVIGNANA

Before continuing, if you are planning a visit to FAVIGNANA, here you can find some useful resources to choose where to stay, where to eat and what to do nearby.

From 15 July to 6 September 2026, the island of Favignana will host “Odissee di ieri e di oggi”, a literary festival that uses the journey of Ulysses and the main themes of the Odyssey to explore war, crime, technology, freedom, memory and identity in the contemporary world.

The events will take place in the evocative setting of the former Florio Tuna Fishery in Favignana, with the participation of writers, journalists, scholars and leading figures from the Italian cultural scene. All meetings will begin at 9:45 pm and admission will be free, subject to seat availability.

Odissee di ieri e di oggi: Favignana’s cultural festival

Created and curated by journalist and writer Giacomo Pilati and promoted by the Municipality of Favignana, the festival features eight events, each inspired by a different stage of Homer’s epic tale.

The origins, the siege, the departure, the Suitors, Nausicaa, the Sirens, Penelope and the return become opportunities to reflect on some of the most important issues of our time. The journey will also be accompanied by readings from the epic texts performed by actress Stefania Orsola Garello.

The choice of the former Florio Tuna Fishery makes the festival especially evocative. One of the island’s most important historical and industrial landmarks becomes a venue dedicated to literature, dialogue and the cultural memory of the Mediterranean.

Programme of events in Favignana

Wednesday 15 July – The Origins
Archaeologist and historian Massimo Cultraro will present the book I Micenei, taking the audience on a journey through the historical and cultural world in which the Homeric poems have their roots.

Monday 20 July – The Siege
Journalist and war correspondent Toni Capuozzo will present Cos’è la guerra. The siege of Troy becomes the starting point for a reflection on contemporary conflicts, propaganda and the condition of civilians affected by war.

Wednesday 5 August – The Departure
Writer Stefania Auci will present L’alba dei leoni, a new chapter in the saga dedicated to the Florio family. The event has a particularly special meaning in Favignana, in a place closely connected with the history of the Florio family and their business activities.

Monday 17 August – The Suitors
Former National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor and former President of the Italian Senate Pietro Grasso will present U Maxi. The story of the Palermo Maxi Trial is linked to the figure of the Suitors, symbols of an arrogant and predatory form of power that must be opposed by society.

Saturday 22 August – Nausicaa
Writer and scholar of Mediterranean traditions Girolama Sansone will present I viaggi di Ulisse nelle Egadi. The event will explore the possible geographical and literary links between the Odyssey and the Egadi Islands.

Thursday 27 August – The Sirens
Journalist and television presenter Sigfrido Ranucci will present Navigare senza paura. The Sirens of the ancient world become a metaphor for the temptations, illusions and dangers of the internet and social media.

Tuesday 1 September – Penelope
Iranian activist and writer Pegah Moshir Pour will present La casa dimenticata. The event will focus on women’s resistance, freedom and the social transformations taking place in contemporary Iran.

Sunday 6 September – The Return
The festival will conclude with Andrea Pezzi, author of La nostra Odissea. Ulysses’ return becomes the starting point for a reflection on the search for a new individual and collective balance.

All the events in “Odissee di ieri e di oggi” will take place at the former Florio Tuna Fishery of Favignana and Formica.
