The festival combines food and entertainment, with a special focus on the promotion of bluefin tuna, sustainable fishing and the maritime culture of the Egadi Islands.
The festival opens on Friday 11 September. At 5:00 pm, at the Former Florio Factory, Fishtuna Kids – “The most precious fish is the one that is respected” will take place, an educational workshop organised by the Egadi Islands Marine Protected Area. The activity is designed to introduce children to marine biodiversity, sustainable fishing and healthy eating.
Also on 11 September, in Piazza Madrice, Sasà Salvaggio is expected to take part in a comedy show linked to the world of food, presented as “Chef for one night”. Admission is free.
On 11 and 12 September, food influencer Barbara Conti will also take part with the talk show and cooking show “Favignana like Marzamemi”.
On Saturday 12 September, several chefs will take to the stage. Mariella Cascio will present “Tuna dressed as veal”, while Lady Chef Rosy Napoli will prepare “Love of tuna”.
On Sunday 13 September, Peppe Giuffrè will be featured with the cooking show “Oops... the tuna fell onto the busiate with crushed garlic”. On the same day, Benedetta Schifano from Associazione Cucina Siciliana will prepare “Busiate with stuffed tuna”.
Also scheduled for 13 September is Ita Galfano, known as ArchiCuoca, who will present “Tuna dressed as Sicilian cassata”, a creative dish combining cuisine and visual inspiration.
Fishtuna is not only about food. The general programme also includes live music, cabaret, talks and conferences dedicated to sustainable fishing, the protection of the sea and the promotion of bluefin tuna. Outdoor activities, workshops and initiatives for children are also planned.
Admission to the main events in Piazza Madrice is advertised as free. For specific activities, tastings or workshops, it is still advisable to check the official festival channels for any booking requirements.
Favignana is easily reached from Trapani by hydrofoil and ferry. Visitors who want to attend the festival can plan a day on the island by reading our guide Favignana in one day.
Before departure, it is useful to check the Trapani-Favignana hydrofoil timetable, especially if you plan to stay for the evening events.
Those who prefer to spend more than one day in the Egadi Islands can browse the available B&Bs in Favignana and turn the festival into a weekend on the island.
