What to do in san vito lo capo

From 9 to 11 October 2026 San Vito Lo Capo hosts Tempu Ri Capuna, the traditional food and wine festival dedicated to mahi-mahi, locally known as “capone”.

The event celebrates one of the most characteristic products of local fishing, right during the season when mahi-mahi approaches the coasts of western Sicily. For three days, San Vito Lo Capo highlights its strong connection with the sea, fishing traditions and local cuisine.

Tastings, fishermen and maritime traditions

The main protagonists of Tempu Ri Capuna are the local fishermen and, of course, the fish itself. The programme includes fish tastings, events dedicated to maritime culture, meetings and entertainment.

Mahi-mahi is traditionally caught in the waters around San Vito Lo Capo mainly between the end of summer and autumn. The festival was created to celebrate this historic fishing season and the recipes that have become part of the local culinary tradition.

The main activities will take place between Via Venza and Piazza Santuario. Via Venza will host tastings and food-related events, while Piazza Santuario will be the setting for cooking shows, talks, the fish auction, concerts and evening entertainment. Fishing-tourism activities will depart from the breakwater pier.

Tempu Ri Capuna is also a good reason to spend a weekend in San Vito Lo Capo outside the peak summer season. In October the town is usually quieter than in July and August, making it easier to enjoy the centre, the beach and the surrounding area at a more relaxed pace.
