In Custonaci the first of May is very much felt, where the local pro has planned a series of events, which start towards the end of April to culminate in the celebrations of the first of May.
With the Labor Day in Custonaci, basically, the tourist season opens, which has been programmed for some time, because the "City of Marbles" offers so much and deserves to be admired for its cultural and natural resources.
The feast of St. Joseph worker in these areas has quite ancient origins thanks to the devotion of a family of the locality Sperone, who miraculously escaped an earthquake and a thunderbolt, thus avoiding all tragedies and deaths.
A grace that we want to attribute to Saint Joseph the worker and everything is expressed in the solemn tradition of the so-called "admission to Saint Joseph", which translates into an invitation in Italian.
This tradition that was born in the early nineteenth century consists of setting up a votive altar in honor of the saint, with the preparation of the typical bread of St. Joseph; moreover, the table is set, where three people sit, depicting Jesus, Joseph and Mary, that is, the Holy Family. To embellish even more the scene there are the children dressed in luminous angels.
The dishes that are served at the table are prepared by the entire community of custonacioti, while in the background resound the notes of the city band.
The festivities are enriched by tastings of typical products, which include, in particular, the boiled sheep and the busiate with mixed stew, but there will be dances and music.
New this year is the first parade of horses and Sicilian carts in traditional costume that will be Sunday, April 29 from 15.00, while tastings will be every evening from 20.00 in Piazza Sperone in Custonaci.
At the end of the festivities there will be traditional pyrotechnic games.
