Still the art of Caravaggio is present in the province of Trapani with another initiative that recalls the great artist. After the experience of the exhibition a few years ago in Trapani, now is the city of Marsala that houses the great artist not to exhibit paintings of the same Caravaggio, but works that express in language and painting technique its influence, which is called "caravaggism".
Caravaggism is a pictorial current that arose between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, because the influence of this great artist on the new Baroque painting was truly disruptive, so much so that the painters of the Baroque period, followed the style, inspired by his Opera.
Even this influence will be very present even in nineteenth-century artists, not only Italians, but also artists from other European countries.
Moreover, many of these painters went beyond caravaggio and carried on a new technique, opening a new and very important path.
In the paintings of Caravaggio´s painters we find above all a great realism in reproducing still lifes and interiors with human figures with a contrast of violent and theatrical lights.
The expressive works of Caravaggism are exhibited in an exhibition entitled "The myths of the territory in Sicily of a thousand cultures" and have been painted by artists of the past, belonging among others to Francesco Furini, Nicolas Regnier, Bernardo Strozzi and Pietro Novelli and then other works by more contemporary artists.
The exhibition is organized by the Fiera Franca SS. Salvatore in collaboration with Lab_04, in the same prestigious headquarters belonging to the Fondo Edifici di Culto, or the Church of San Pietro di Marsala and is open every day until May 16th.
