The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between the museum, the municipalities of Sciacca and Burgio, the Museum of Ceramics of Burgio, and the University of Palermo. Around fifty works created by master ceramic artists from these two important towns in the Agrigento hinterland will be on display, internationally recognized for the quality of their craftsmanship.
The ceramics on display tell the story of an ancient tradition that dates back to between the 16th and 18th centuries, yet continues to evolve today, keeping alive the connection between innovation and craftsmanship. Sicily, thanks to its abundance of clay and its long history of cultural influences, has always been a fertile land for this art form.
Today, the ceramics sector involves hundreds of companies and thousands of artisans, helping to preserve and renew an ancient craft, that of the potter, which still represents a cultural and productive heritage of great value.
The works will be displayed in elegant showcases designed by Franco Minissi and will also be placed within the museum’s archaeological section, creating a fascinating dialogue between past and present.
Opening hours Tuesday to Sunday: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm (last entry at 5:00 pm) Public holidays: 9:00 am – 1:00 pm (last entry at 12:00 pm) Closed on Mondays
