It was held in Erice, an important meeting between institutional representatives and young people (linked to the Rotary International) which gave rise to a "declaration of peace" by the 23 countries of the Mediterranean Sea-related.
The aim is to enable "real instruments of peace" through cooperation, a more human-scale economy and cultural development and tourism.
Erice, with the collaboration of Assisi (the two cities are linked by a pact of friendship), will create a "forum of peace" on the Mediterranean, an ancient tower that will be restored (about to start work) and will become a point of meeting from which, through new technologies, will be disseminated in the Mediterranean "models, ideas and instruments of peace and balanced development." The place to be born this "lighthouse of peace" is the same as in ancient times bonfires were lit to guide mariners: Erice is in fact the tip of Sicily, at the top, which you touch the "two seas" in essentially the two sides of the Mediterranean.
During the presentation of the initiative, coordinated by the Mayor of Erice Tranchida James, I was invited as guest speakers and staff on the project. prof. Roberto Lagalla, Rector of the University of Palermo, the well-known European Mr Magdi Cristiano Allam and the mayor of Assisi, Claudio Ricci, in his capacity as President of the Italian cities and UNESCO World Heritage sites. Erice, for being an important place of the Phoenicians, is applying for a Unesco World Heritage Site.
Mayor Claudio Ricci said that the project with Eric to be a "lighthouse of peace" will turn on the Mediterranean, including Assisi, important actions for dialogue between peoples and cultural development and tourism.
